A Different WhatsApp Number Asks for a Transfer Deposit: What Should You Verify?
Verify an unexpected payment request through an independently obtained contact. Keep the agreed transfer quote, recipient and payment channel separate from a familiar chat avatar.

Pause an unexpected payment request and verify it through a contact you obtained independently of that request. A new number, changed bank detail or payment link is not automatically fraudulent, but it is also not validated by a familiar logo, chat history screenshot or urgent deadline. Confirm who is asking and which agreed journey the payment concerns before deciding what to do.
This is a booking-verification guide, not a statement that our service requires a deposit, uses a particular bank account or accepts a particular payment platform. No account number or payment link is supplied here.
The article reuses a licensed historical desk photograph for the act of checking information. It is not a customer transaction. Small home/index cards are labelled AI planning illustrations, not real records. Primary scam-awareness information was checked on 28 October 2026.
A quoted journey and a payment instruction are different facts
An agreed quote describes a proposed journey and amount. A later message asking you to send money needs its own verification, especially when the contact, recipient or payment method differs from what you understood. Keep the actual quote and the unexpected request side by side: which journey, which amount and currency, who is requesting it and why has anything changed? Do not silently treat a forwarded screenshot as confirmation from the original provider.
Use a contact path that does not come from the suspicious message
Return to the provider’s website or a contact channel you had already established independently. Ask whether the particular new request was issued by them and which exact recipient and method apply to your booking. Calling a number supplied inside the same unverified message does not create an independent check. If the answer remains unclear, do not resolve the uncertainty by sending a small test payment.
Recognise the link-to-app trap, not only a wrong bank account
A Singapore Police advisory describes travel-related advertisements leading people to WhatsApp, then to small-payment requests and phishing links that prompt an APK installation. The lesson is not that every travel chat is fraudulent; it is that a plausible booking conversation can be used to move someone into an unrelated credential or software step. Do not install an app from an unexpected chat link to complete a transport payment, and do not give a chat contact banking passwords or OTPs.
A convincing surface is not identity confirmation
A copied business photo, reassuring wording or an HTTPS address does not answer whether this sender is authorised for your booking. Equally, a legitimate business may have a genuine reason to clarify a payment arrangement. Avoid both extremes: do not accuse someone merely for using a new number, and do not pay merely because the message looks professional. Ask for the change to be confirmed through the independent channel and tied to the real journey.
Keep only the information needed to explain the mismatch
Use the journey date, agreed route, quote reference if one exists and the wording of the unexpected request to explain what needs checking. Redact unrelated personal or banking details from anything you share. Do not upload full identity documents or bank credentials as proof that you are a customer. If you believe you have already exposed credentials or made a suspicious payment, promptly contact your bank and the appropriate official help channel; this travel article cannot investigate or recover the funds.
Return to booking only after the uncertainty is resolved
Once the provider has clearly confirmed the genuine instruction, check the actual amount, currency, transport scope and applicable terms before making your own payment decision. Save the acknowledgement in the same traceable booking record. If no independent confirmation is available, leave the request unresolved rather than treating silence or a ticking countdown as proof. Our quote pages help define the journey; they do not validate an outside payment link or reserve a vehicle by themselves.
